Windows 7 / Networking

Activating Homegroup Connections

By default, homegroup networking is activated in new Windows 7 installations. To make sure, or to activate homegroup networking in an upgrade installation, follow these steps on each Windows 7 network computer:

  1. In the Network and Sharing Center, click Change Advanced Sharing Settings.
  2. Open the Home or Work profile.
  3. In the Homegroup Connections section, click to activate the Allow Windows to Manage Homegroup Connections option.
  4. Click Save Changes. Windows 7 tells you that you must log off to apply the changes.
  5. Click Log Off Now. Windows 7 logs off your account.

When you log back on, you're ready to create a homegroup, as described next.
