Turning Off Homegroup Connections

My assumption here is that for your own networking needs, you're going to want the power and flexibility of traditional user account-based networking. If so, you must turn off homegroup networking by following these steps:

  1. In the Network and Sharing Center, click Change Advanced Sharing Settings.
  2. Open the Home or Work profile.
  3. In the Homegroup Connections section, click to activate the Use User Accounts and Passwords to Connect to Other Computers option.
  4. Click Save Changes. Windows 7 tells you that you must log off to apply the changes.
  5. Click Log Off Now. Windows 7 logs off your account.

When you log back on, you're ready to use regular user account-based networking connections
