Optional settings for RSS feeds
You can tweak a couple of settings to change how RSS feeds behave. To get to them:
- Click Tools on the Command Bar and choose Internet Options or choose Tools → Internet Options from Internet Explorer's menu.
- Click the Content tab in the dialog box that opens.
- Under the Feeds and Web Slices group, click the Settings button.
The options in the dialog box that opens are largely self-explanatory. You can control if, and how often, feeds and Web Slices update automatically. The Automatically Mark Feed As Read When Reading a Feed option automatically colors feeds you've read differently from unread feeds to help you keep track. That option is available only if you also choose Turn on Feed Reading view. If you disable the Feed Reading view, your feeds will be difficult to read because they're displayed in the native XML format. Choosing Play a Sound When a Feed or Web Slice Is Found for a Webpage is a good way to get a heads-up beep when you land on a page that offers feeds. Choosing Turn On in Page Web Slice Discovery enables IE 8 to identify and display available Web Slices on the page. Use Play a Sound When a Monitored Feed or Web Slice is Updated to receive an audible notification when feeds and slices are updated.
As always, click OK in all open dialog boxes after making your selections.
