Windows 7 / Getting Started

Running the MBSA

Once you've downloaded the MBSA onto your system, you can run it, as explained as follow. The first time it is run, it may take some time to connect to Microsoft's site to download the wsusscn2.cab file, which includes the catalog of security update information. Later, it only checks to see if the version is up to date.

Running the MBSA GUI

  1. Click Start → All Programs → Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer to launch MBSA. If prompted by User Account Control, click Yes to continue.
  2. Click Scan a Computer.
  3. It will default to the selection of your computer. Review the options, and accept the default settings. Click Start Scan.
  4. After a moment, the scan will complete and the report will appear. Review the report, and investigate any issues that are reported.
