Using a VPN
After you've installed the configuration profile that contains the VPN payload, or you've set up the VPN manually, you can connect to the VPN and use it. When you've finished using it, you disconnect from it.
Connecting to a VPN
To connect to a VPN, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, touch Settings to display the Settings screen.
- Start the VPN connection in one of these ways:
- If you have only one VPN connection: Move the On/Off switch on the VPN line to the On position.
- If you have two or more VPN connections: Touch the VPN button to display the VPN screen. In the Choose A Configuration list, make sure the correct VPN is selected; if not, touch the one you want. Then move the On/Off switch on the VPN line to the On position.
If the VPN requires a password that's not stored in the VPN connection, the iPad or iPhone prompts you to enter it. Type it in, and then touch the Done button. The iPad or iPhone establishes the VPN connection. The VPN icon also appears at the top of the device's screen as a reminder that you're using the VPN.
Working on a VPN
Once you've established the connection, you'll be able to work on the VPN. For example, you can access mail, calendars, and other information resources on the network.
Disconnecting from a VPN
When you've finished using the VPN, close any files that you have been using, and then disconnect like this:
- From the Home screen, touch Settings to display the Settings screen.
- Stop the VPN connection in one of these ways:
- If you have only one VPN connection: Move the On/Off switch on the VPN line to the Off position.
- If you have two or more VPN connections: Touch the VPN button to display the VPN screen. Then move the On/Off switch on the VPN line top the On position.
Deleting a VPN Connection
To delete a VPN connection from the iPad or iPhone, follow these steps:
- From the Home screen, choose Settings | General | Network | VPN to display the VPN screen.
- Touch the arrow button for the VPN connection you want to delete. The device displays the Add Configuration screen for the VPN connection.
- Scroll down to the bottom, and then touch the Delete VPN button. iOS displays the Delete VPN? dialog box for confirmation.
- Touch the Delete button. iOS deletes the VPN connection.
NOTE If you can't delete a VPN connection from the iPad or iPhone directly, it's normally because the VPN connection has been added using a configuration profile that the user is not permitted to remove. To remove the VPN connection, use iPhone Configuration Utility to remove the profile that contains the connection.
