Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2

Client computers must be running Windows 7 Enterprise or Ultimate operating systems or Windows Server 2008 R2 to use DirectAccess.

In addition, at least one server on the corporate network must be running Windows Server 2008 R2 so it can act as the DirectAccess server.

This server typically resides on your perimeter network and acts as both a relay for IPv6 traffic and also an IPsec gateway.
