Configuring VLANs
Hyper-V supports using VLANs to partition network traffic. When you configure VLANs, network traffic is isolated so that hosts, or virtual hosts, on one VLAN are unable to communicate with hosts on another VLAN unless routing between those VLANs is explicitly configured. You can configure VLANs on external and internal virtual machine networks, but not private virtual machine networks. VLAN IDs can also be configured on a per-virtual network adapter basis.
To configure a VLAN ID for a specific virtual network, open the Virtual Network Manager, select the network that you want to configure the VLAN ID for, check the Enable Virtual LAN Identification for Management Operating System item and then enter a VLAN ID.
To configure a VLAN ID for a specific virtual network adapter, perform the following steps:
- Open Hyper-V Manager and edit the virtual machine's properties.
- Select the adapter to which you want to assign a VLAN ID.
- Select the Enable Virtual LAN Identification checkbox.
- Enter the appropriate VLAN ID.
