Inserting and Deleting Worksheets

The most global type of insertion or deletion you make in a spreadsheet is to insert new worksheets or delete existing ones from the workbook file itself. The steps for this type of structural edit look like this:

  1. Select the affected sheet tabs.
  2. Choose either Insert → Worksheet or Edit → Delete Sheet.
    • If you're inserting worksheets, Excel inserts a number equal to the number of tabs you've selected and places the blank worksheets ahead of them.
    • If you're deleting worksheets that contain data, Excel displays an alert dialog box to warn you of possible data loss. To complete the deletion, click the Delete button in this dialog box.
