Windows 7 / Getting Started

Office Live Add-In

The Office Live Add-in consists of two services, Office Live Workspace and Office Live Small Business. It is available for Windows 7 and Windows Vista, but not for Windows XP.

Office Live Workspace

With Office Live Workspace, you can manage documents from remote locations without schlepping a USB drive from computer to computer. After you install Office Live Update, you can directly access workspaces from Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Files can't be edited from within the workspace, but clicking Edit opens them up in the relevant package. To prevent simultaneous overwriting, documents are checked out and checked in.

Office LiveWorkspace allows you to edit documents from anywhere and share those documents with other people you choose.

With Office Live Workspace, you can save up to 5GB of information. This can save you from using USB drives or CDs as a storage solution and lets you update project schedules, organize events, and delegate assignments without scheduling a meeting or relying on email.

Office Live Workspace users can share multiple documents and collaborate online as a group. Workspaces are password-protected, and users can control who views and edits information. Files or workspaces can be shared with up to 100 people.

Office Live Workspace also allows users to store documents of file types other than those generated by Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook. After the Office Live update is installed, you can open files from Microsoft Office XP, 2003, or 2007 and store them directly. You can also synchronize contacts, tasks, and event lists with Outlook 2003 and 2007 and export workspace lists to Excel.
