Enabling Remote Control via RD Session Host Configuration
RD Session Host Configuration is used to set Remote Control settings on a per-server basis. On a server, open RD Session Host Configuration, double-click the RDP-Tcp connection, and then click the Remote Control tab.
There are two ways to enable remote control.
- Enable remote control and specify whether user permissions are required to shadow the user session and the level of control (view only or interact) permitted when shadowing the session.
- Enable remote control and use the Remote Control settings set in each user's account properties to specify whether shadowing that user's session is allowed, whether the user's permission is required, and the level of control (view only or interact) permitted when shadowing the session.
You can disable remote control of user sessions created on the server by choosing Do Not Allow Remote Control.
By default, only administrators have the right to shadow sessions. To give another user or user group permissions to shadow sessions, follow these steps.
- Open RD Session Host Configuration and double-click RDP-Tcp.
- Navigate to the Security tab and click OK to the warning that pops up telling you to modify the Remote Desktop Sessions group. Then click Advanced.
- Add the user account or the user group whose sessions you would like to be able to shadow by clicking Add and entering the name of the user or group. Then click OK.
- In the Permissions Entry For RDP-Tcp dialog box, select the Remote Control check box.
- Then click OK in each of the three dialog boxes that are open to save the changes.
The settings are applied at logon, so the users to whom you granted this right must log off and log back on before they can remote control others' sessions.
