Creating a Name from a Selection
If you already have existing row or column labels, you can use these to quickly create names for multiple cells. Select the range of cells that you want to name along with the labels (which should be in the row above or below or the column to the left or to the right). Click Create from Selection in the Defined Names group of the Formulas tab. In the Create Names from Selection dialog box, select the location of the text you want to use as the names and click OK. Each cell will be named individually using its corresponding label. You can check this by selecting any of the cells and looking in the Name box to the left of the formula bar. Excel will insert an underscore at the start of the name if the label begins with a number and it will replace any spaces in the label with an underscore.
